“Tested last year in a NEIPA in combination with Alpha Aroma. The result was very satisfying with a particularly delicious pineapple effect. The Akoya is powerful and fragrant.”
Particularly fresh and powerful with a slightly mentholated effect. Worth discovering.
Akoya is a classic aromatic hop, resulting from the cross, within the Hopsteiner breeding program, of the English variety Zenith and a Hopsteiner male line.
The aroma of raw hops is herbaceous, lemony, and tea-like, with slightly fruity and menthol notes. It exhibits good resistance to diseases such as downy mildew, powdery mildew, verticillium wilt, and water stress.

Analysis of the oils and interpretation
This batch boasts some of the highest and most refined concentrations of essential oils available. It has a very "modern" profile while retaining a classic structure.
The Freshness Peak (Myrcene: 47.08%)
We're approaching the 50% mark. This is a level usually found in very intense "Aromatic" or "Dual Purpose" hops.
Sensory result: An explosion of pine, sap, and citrus zest . This is a batch that will give the beer a lot of "pep" and depth.
Floral Elegance (Linalool: 1.16%)
Exceeding 1% of linalool is an indicator of very high aromatic quality.
Sensory result: A very pure note of lavender flower and bergamot . This linalool will "lift" the resinous aromas to give a complex, airy and extremely pleasant nose.
A Solid and Noble Base (Humulene: 21.77%)
The balance remains perfect with Humulene providing the structure.
Sensory result: Despite the power of the Myrcene, the beer will not be one-dimensional. It retains that woody, noble, and slightly earthy background that characterizes great hops.
Absolute Purity
Farnesene is almost absent (0.06%) . There is therefore no vegetal or "green apple" interference; the profile is perfectly focused on resin, wood and flowers.
Advice for the Brewer
This Akoya is the ideal candidate for a Single Hop :
Usage: To avoid ruining such a profile, it must be used extensively in flame-out or dry hopping . Its oils are so concentrated that it will impart a distinctive character to the beer even in small doses.
Recommended style: A Session IPA (to have a lot of aroma in a light beer), a very hoppy Modern Lager , or a very floral American Wheat .
This is a "spectacular" vintage. It has the power of American hops with the finesse of European varieties.
