Motueka, the rockstar!
“A must-have among New Zealand hops. A true aromatic catalyst that works in all beer styles. A few grams in a thirst-quenching lager and a half-pint becomes a pint, a pint leads to another pint… and the keg is quickly emptied. It’s one of the few hops capable of releasing citrus aromas at every stage of brewing.“
Here are some use cases:
In a thirst-quenching Pale Ale: 2g/L in the whirlpool to enhance without altering.
In a typical IPA: A DH of 3g/L during primary fermentation is sufficient to release pleasant fruity aromas.
In a NEIPA: A DH of 6g/L during fermentation to get exotic fruits + A DH during conditioning to get the “cocktail” effect.
The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research developed Motueka™ and launched it on the market in 1996. Interestingly, this hop is a cross between a New Zealand variety and the renowned Saaz. Also known as “Belgian Saaz,” Motueka™ was widely used by a major Belgian brewery as a substitute for Saaz. Like Saaz, it has a high level of farnesene oil.
Flavors : Lime, Lemon, Exotic Fruits
Uses : Pilsner, Pale Ale, Lager, Belgian Ale, White Ale, IPA
Acids :
Alpha: 6.5 – 7.5%
Beta: 5 – 5.5%
Cohumulone: 27-28%

Origin : New Zealand Hop Type : Aromatic Form : Pellets
This batch is what we call a "FRESHNESS AROMATIC BOMB" . One of the most "expressive" hops in the shop.
The Ultra-Dominance of Myrcene (53.01%)
We have passed the 50% mark. That's an exceptionally high rate.
Sensory result: Expect an absolutely explosive aroma of fresh pine resin, sap, grapefruit zest, and damp cut grass . The hops will provide the greatest aromatic depth and the most vibrant sensation to the beer.
The Floral Top Bouquet (Linalool + Geraniol = 2.37%)
Although low compared to Myrcene, the concentration of floral alcohols is remarkable:
Linalool (1.00%) : This level is excellent and provides a fine floral note (lavender, noble citrus fruits) .
Geraniol (1.37%) : This is the marker of this batch. It provides an intense pink/geranium touch.
Synergy: These two oils work together to "envelop" the raw Myrcene resin, providing a floral complexity needed to avoid a profile that is too linear and "only pine".
A Fine and Clean Structure (Humulene and Caryophyllene)
The base (earthy) oils are very subtle:
Exceptional Humulene/Caryophyllene Ratio (Ratio of ~13) : This is a very pure profile. The humulene (12.99%) provides a noble woody structure, but there is none of the peppery spiciness of the caryophyllene (only 1%). The hops will be exceptionally clean on the palate.
Advice for the Brewer
Lot 006A26 is an impact hop. There's no hiding it:
Usage: This is the ideal candidate for a massive dry hopping or a low-temperature whirlpool , in order to maximize the myrcene and highly volatile flower alcohols.
Recommended style: An IPA of course, a modern IPL (India Pale Lager) , a Session IPA or a White IPA where you are looking for an aggressive resinous and floral freshness but without malty heaviness.
